LAMDA Exams
LAMDA examinations are a graded examination system run by the world renowned London Academy of Dramatic Arts. Similar in structure to musical instrument examinations these Acting exams start at Grade 1 and conclude with Grade 8 (Gold Medal). The examination requires the candidate to learn 2 or 3 speeches and present them to an external examiner. During the examination the examiner will ask the candidate questions about the speech including where it takes place, how the candidate created the character and what the character is achieving in the speech. The candidate is then awarded points for technique, delivery and knowledge and is awarded either a Pass, Pass with Merit or Pass with Distinction at their entered grade.
The graded system of examinations provides an excellent opportunity for young people to not only develop their performance skills but also develop key life skills such as:
- Unlocking the imagination
- Developing communication skills
- Fostering an appreciation of Literature and Drama
- Supporting the creative, intellectual and social development of the individual as a whole
LAMDA examinations are not only a great addition to any CV but have also recently been accredited by UCAS, the university entrance body. This means that students receiving a pass, merit or distinction at Grade 6, 7 or 8 are awarded UCAS points. These UCAS points can be used to further validate the student’s university application. L.A.D.A. have been preparing their students for the examinations for a number of years and we currently celebrate a 100% pass rate.
